Until recently, I have been investigating species limits in the Alpine jumping-bristletail genus Machilis (Insect order Archaeognatha, or Microcoryphia) using an integrative taxonomic approach. The methodological repertoire included sequencing of molecular markers, morphometrics, karyotyping, and flow cytometry. Based on the results of my PhD thesis, I now try to use next generation sequencing data to further unravel the complex evolutionary history of Alpine jumping-bristletails. I am especially interested in the following topics: speciation, hybridization, polyploidization, evolution of parthenogenesis, evolution of endemism.

Research topics
Alpine endemism
Biogeography and faunistics
Hybridisation
(Integrative) taxonomy
Parthenogenesis
Phylogeny and phylogeography
Polyploidy
Population genetics
Speciation
